Organising snippets
Folders
Folders keep related snippets together, for example WooCommerce/Checkout or Client A/Tracking.
- Create a folder from the sidebar, or type a folder name in a snippet's Folder setting. Use
/for subfolders:WooCommerce/Checkout. - Move snippets by dragging them onto a folder, or select several and use Move in the bulk actions. Drop a snippet on Drop here to move out of folders to take it out of all folders.
- Rename a folder from its menu in the sidebar. Its subfolders and snippets move with it.
- Export a folder as a plugin with the ⇩ button on its row: see Export as a plugin. With the Agency plan, ⇪ pushes the folder to your client sites: see Agency hub.
Snipfire makes some folders for you: Imported/… for imports from other plugins, Library for snippets from the snippet library, and Header & Footer for the Header & Footer boxes. You can move those snippets like any other.
Folders don't change how snippets run. (With Git sync, they become folders in the repository.)
Tags and descriptions
- Tags: comma-separated labels, for example
tracking, client-a. Imported snippets are taggedimported. - Description: notes for you and your team: what the snippet does, who asked for it, a ticket link.
Both are in the settings panel and both are searchable.
Search and filters
Search snippets… looks in titles, descriptions, folders, locations, tags and IDs.
The filter chips narrow the list:
- All, On, Off
- Errors: snippets Snipfire switched off after an error
- Testing (Pro): snippets in testing mode
All types filters by PHP, HTML, CSS or JavaScript.
Bulk actions
Tick the checkboxes next to snippets, and a bar of bulk actions appears:
- On: every selected snippet is checked first; the ones without problems are switched on together, and the site is test-loaded once. A snippet that crashes the test load is switched off again and listed.
- Off
- Move to a folder
- Plugin: export them as a plugin (full access)
- Delete (asks first; this can't be undone)
- Push to sites… (Agency): send them to your client sites with the agency hub
Bulk actions are quick even on big sites: moving or switching hundreds of snippets takes well under a second.
Duplicate
⋯ → Duplicate makes a copy called "Copy of …". The copy starts switched off and gets its own ID, so you can try a variation safely.
The classic view
Classic view (at the bottom of the sidebar) opens a simple list of snippets that works without JavaScript. It's there as a fallback, for example if a browser extension stops the editor from loading. See Classic screens.
